Images From Australia's Political Campaigns

Campaign is an exhibition of B&W images dating from Nov 11th 1975 through to the conclusion of the 2004 Federal Election. The daily grind of the election campaign, the behind the camera scenes, the boredom and the media's battle to get relevant images in a tightly managed campaign, where a Leaders slip ups can be costly, are recorded in an unsensationalised, yet revealing style. “Campaign” documents the ebb and flow of election campaigns from a “fly on the wall” perspective.

The Shearers

The focus of a 20 minute feature on ABC TV's "Landline"

Standing on the banks of the Murrumbidgee, one of our great inland rivers, steeped in the histories of both black and white settlement in Australia, I'm looking back towards the old shearers' quarters that grace the river near Hay in southwestern New South Wales. These inland rivers were the first highways that helped build Australia's great wool industry.

The St Arnaud Projects

Shot mainly in September 2005, the images are diverse, ranging from community events to harvesting to portraits of many local identities.

Andrew offered to bring a team of professional photographers to the town to record what they saw and to mount an exhibition, which would form a permanent part of the town's visual history. He envisaged around 5-6 photographers for the project, but such was the keenness of the photographic community, he ended up with 16.

What we have here is an eclectic collection of images that records the heart and soul of this vibrant Victorian community. It is envisaged that this exhibition will become a permanent display helping rural communities to remain interesting and diverse.

Photographers that worked on the project were, Stuart Baker, Andrew Chapman, Melanie Dove, Joseph Feil, Jess Hartwig, Bert Hovelling, Sam Lowcock, Dale Mann, David Marks, Julie Millowick, Tony Reddrop, Michael Silver, Tobias Titz, Tim Webster, Stephanie White and Barry Wiseman.

We are hoping to show this exhibition as part of the 2007 Daylesford Foto Biennale.

Andrew Chapman's personal black-and-white projects, one focussing on rural labour and another on workers in general.
